Comfortable Year-Round Outdoor Entertaining in York, PA
The primary goal of this homeowner was to transform the landscape into a more comfortable paved space that provided the luxury of outdoor entertaining, regardless of the season.
The homeowners had a large backyard but felt they were missing a dedicated space for outdoor entertaining. They wanted to be able to spend time outside, enjoying their yard throughout all four seasons. They envisioned an outdoor fire area and a place for grilling.

Design
Hively’s initial design concept featured a pavilion, which the clients fell in love with. Hively built the patio, walls, outdoor fireplace, and outdoor kitchen area, acting as designer and general contractor for the roof structure.
Construction
To reduce the cost of a natural stone wall, the homeowners chose block construction with a custom-cut, natural stone veneer. The wooden ceiling brings in more natural elements while balancing the addition of recessed lighting, ceiling fans, and outdoor audio for optimum entertainment value. Planting beds provide pops of color and seasonal points of interest, making it welcoming while blending the natural stone with the green of the lawn.
Recently, Hively renovated the driveway by removing asphalt and by replacing it with pavers. The homeowners chose a classic herringbone pattern with a contrasting soldier course. An existing concrete sidewalk, leading to a side entrance, was renovated with pavers to match the new parking court.
Ongoing Maintenance
This project has provided the homeowners with a year-round outdoor living ability, extending their space and embracing nature.
